Enola Henson Celebrates 10 Years of Residency at Grace Senior Living of Douglasville

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (November 10, 2016) – Enola Henson, resident at Grace Senior Living of Douglasville, recently celebrated 10 years of residency at the senior living facility serving Metro Atlanta.

Henson is a valuable part of the familial community of Grace Senior Living. She serves as the resident ambassador, president of the resident council, a valued member of the red hat society, and vice president of their decorating committee.

“I love living at Grace, and there is nowhere else I would want to be. The staff treats me as my family, and the love they have for me and all residents is unconditional,” Henson said. “You can feel the family community the moment you walk in the door. The staff is so loving and caring; it is truly a family here at Grace.”

Henson was born on October 23, 1942, at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta to Mary Elizabeth Blake-Gober. She lost her mom when she was just barely four years old and went to live with her grandmother, Carrie Blake, in East Point, Ga. She fondly recalls the memories she cherishes about her mom: “I remember that she made the best chicken and dumplings, cooked with laughter and love.”

“Enola grew up a tomboy; loving to fish, camp, play softball and to this day, devours any book she gets her hands on,” Cabral said.

Henson was diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after her mother’s death. Her grandmother pushed her to understand there are no limits to what she could do in her life, and Henson has strived to do just that.

She graduated from the Smith Hughes School in 1960 and then moved on to further her education at Georgia State College, where she majored in English.

After college, Henson went to work for the Georgia State Revenue Department at the Trinity-Washington building in downtown Atlanta. She remained a valuable employee with the State for 34 years, and was honored at a retirement that was well deserved.

Henson married David Lee Hudson on December 3, 1967. “We shared the love of the Lord, joy of camping, sitting on a lakeside fishing, and eating at The Catfish Den. It was 31 wonderful years that I was married to this great man,” Henson said. They adopted two daughters, Kim and April, and have three beautiful grandchildren, Eli, CJ and Sarah.

“It is with the Lord at her side and her strong values that have allowed her to begin writing a memoir at the young age of 74. Her focus in this memoir is to give the lessons she has learned about life, the Lord, fighting epilepsy, and not allowing your physical body to hold you from your dreams of being everything you were meant to be,” Cabral said.

“I am so honored to be chosen as the November ‘resident of the month’ at Grace Senior Living. When I moved in 10 years ago, I didn’t realize what an amazing family I was going to find in Grace,” Henson said.
